Established in Collingwood in the year 1991, Mannys was founded as an attempt to counter the corporate mindset of music retail in the early days. Instead of simply’shifting boxes the store aimed to provide real support and after-sales support and build genuine long-term relationships with its client base.
In 1998 Mannys was outgrowing its Smith St home, moving to a bigger location in Fitzroy and also Revolver Music Gallery in Prahran. Never content with its accomplishments, the company began investing in what was then – in the moment – a radical modernization of music using computers production. The personnel quickly gained not just for their expertise and services, but also for their extensive knowledge of the process involved in creating music.
In the decade following, Mannys consolidated its two stores into the current one located in North Fitzroy. In 2016 Mannys joined with Store DJ, introducing the DJ’s area as well as a Pro Audio showroom that was above the musical instrument floor on the ground level which could serve as the basis for the collaboration between Store DJ and Mannys across the country.
In the wake of their North Fitzroy store going from growth to strength, Mannys expanded in 2019 by opening two new stores located in Brisbane as well as Sydney. The Brisbane store will be located under the Store DJ, while Sydney was the largest store to date, located on completely new and huge location in Alexandria.
The trend was set to continue in 2020 with the launch of an all-new Perth store. The three-story West Leederville location would provide ample space for Mannys massive display of products as well as dedicated demo rooms in addition to bringing Store DJ Cannington in the same building. This will result in the West Coast’s largest all-in-one shop to purchase Musical Instruments and Pro Audio.
