Piedimonte’s proudly remains independent and is independently operated. The store sections include a liquor section, newsagency and cafe as well as gift hampers and loyalty programs. They also offer home delivery, dry cleaning, postage and specialty catering. Piedimonte’s truly is your one-stop shop for all of your needs.
Since 1958, the Piedimonte family has been involved in Australia’s grocery business. The Piedimonte family had seven warehouses belonging to their extended family in Milazzo Sicily.
Sam Junior, Mr Piedimonte’s son joined the business as a young man and began working at the grocery store. The Piedimonte’s opened an Italian grocery store in August 1958. Oil, pasta, and cheese were the main ingredients of the business. There were 45 varieties of pasta, 22 varieties of cheese and oil from continental countries. These items were displayed alongside Australian products. In 1962, the store doubled in size and added more departments. The store doubled in size again in 1962, with the addition of new departments.
Piedimonte was a member of the Saveway Group since 1969. Further group changes took place from Rite-way to Super-Rite to SSW (Self Service Wholesalers), in 1985, Festival, 1993, and the current IGA (Independent Grocers of Australia).
With the opening of a larger fresh foods department under Guiseppe Piedimonte, the third generation of Piedimontes joined the family business. The store was upgraded and had its next major extension. Anna and Joseph Piedimonte took over the management of the business in 1985. Other family members have taken on key roles in the management of the business since then. In 1991, the second store was renovated. Guiseppe and Joseph continued to run the store. Despite many locals moving away, many returned to the area to shop with their children who are married and have their own children.
