Young Christian Workers

Young Christian Workers

They are a global movement that is run by AND FOR young people. They aim to serve, educate AND REPRESENT youth through giving them the tools to become the change they desire to see in their communities, lives and across the globe in accordance with their values of faith, belief and beliefs.

The members of YCW include young individuals of all backgrounds, ranging from 15-30 years old who are working young or apprentices as well as professionals and those who are unemployed who gather to discuss and act on the most pressing issues that affect their lives.

Cardinal Joseph Cardijn founded the YCW in Brussels in 1912 and was able to bring together youth from all kinds of backgrounds, encouraging individuals to take action in their communities and lives. The movement spread across the world, and was founded in Australia in the year 1940, before being an International Movement holding its first World Council in Rome, in the year 1957.

The YCW is a thriving movement that is active in all over the globe, founded on democratic participation and the involvement of all young workers in the process of making decisions. It is the YCW believes that every young person can take responsibility for finding solutions to their problems on a national, local and international scale, in order to build a better future for all young workers by using The SEE JUDGE, and ACT method.

The YCW is committed to creating an atmosphere that actively defends and respects the God granted dignity of every individual.

By using this approach, the young people who are part of YCW groups are encouraged and supported to participate in initiatives they have planned to address issues they might encounter in their lives.

The YCW fulfills its mission by implementing the activities of young workers and also by analyzing their actions in small groups within their communities. The YCW utilizes the SEE judge, ACT method to carry its mission in the midst of young workers.

It is the SEE, JUDGE ACT technique is a straightforward method to comprehend their current situation and decide to take action based on their FAITH and REALITY. By using this method, youngsters are encouraged and supported to take the actions they plan themselves to address the issues they confront.

The YCW is committed to creating an environment that actively promotes, values and respects the dignity God has given to each of every person.

They will be conscious of upholding the fundamental human rights of all people, including the right to meaningful and fair work.

They will teach global awareness and build a sense of solidarity.

Through taking action and examining their lives in their communities, children will be able to discover the most profound meaning and purpose behind their lives.

The YCW is run by youngsters, by and with young people. The members of the Australian YCW are youngsters from the age of 16 to 30 years old. They are professional students who are full-time, part time, casual workers and volunteers who meet in friendship groups to discuss the most pressing concerns that impact their lives.
